What age ranges do you see?
We typically see ages 18 and older (including geriatrics).
Do you accept insurance?
We are a cash-only practice and do not accept any insurance at this time. However, we are able to provide an invoice for each visit, which allows many of our patients to submit for out of network coverage reimbursement through their own insurance for the intial evaluation and follow up care. The cost of brain imaging may also be partially covered by some insurances in certain circumstances, such as for patients who have a history of concussion. The fact that we do not use insurance allows us to keep your records more private (we avoid the need to send your personal information to third party payers) and allows us to decide your treatment based solely on what is best for you rather than what an insurance company dictates (which could add months of unnecessary medication trials). It also allows us to offer services and appointment lengths tailored to what you need rather than letting your insurance company dictate rapid visits that give the doctor little time to listen and make thoughtful decisions about your care.
Do you do in-person consultations?
Our consultations are done virtually. If there is a need for an in person history and exam, we will dicuss this prior to your visit.
What types of treatments do you offer?
Your treatment plans may include both traditional psychiatric medications and psychotherapy as well as nontraditional treatments such as TMS, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and photomodulation light therapy (PBMT). It may also include recommendations to improve your brain health such as nutritional changes or supplements, wearable neurotechnology, VR or augmented reality based treatments, hyperbaric oxygent therapy (HBOT), and many others.
What is Integrative Functional Cerebrology?
Functional cerebrology is our unique approach to brain science that combines principles of neurology, psychiatry, nuclear medicine, molecular medicine, and radiology with functional brain imaging and specialized areas of neuroscience such as connectomics. Because this approach combines principles from so many different specialities, and because we've found that our method often leads to simultaneous improvements in physical conditions due to the interconnected, holistic nature of the brain, we do not feel that the term "psychiatry" adequately captures this approach. Thus, we feel a new term focusing exclusively on brain medicine and functional imaging (i.e., integrative functional cerebrology) is more appropriate.
Do you see patients for non-psychiatric conditions?
Although our focus is on psychiatric conditions, we often see patients with other co-occurring medical conditions; and a significant portion of our patients have complicated medical and psychiatric histories. We are also very comfortable treating conditions that have not yet responded to other treatments. Additionally, because our unique approach focuses on improving brain function, it is not uncommon for patients to experience simultaneous improvements in other brain related physical conditions alongside mental health conditions. This is often a sign we are addressing the correct underlying causes. We often see patients with other co-occuring medical conditions. Additionally, because our unique approach focuses on improving brain function. A signficant portion of our patiients have complicated medical and psychiatric histories and we are comfortable seeing these as well as treatment resistant mental health conditions.
Do you offer after hours emergency services?
In case of an emergency, we advise patients to call 911 or go to their nearest emergency room. We do not offer after-hours services or on-call services.
Do you provide disability paperwork or unemployment claims assistance?
We do not generally handle disability paperwork or unemployment claims due to time constraints. If requested, a specific appointment must be scheduled with the provider to allow time for completion of the paperwork during the visit, considered on a case-by-case basis.
