Dr. Aaron Andersen, D.O. is the owner and founder of Synergic Mind Neuropsychiatry and is a nuclear trained neuropsychiatrist who is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a member of the International Society of Applied Neuroimaging (ISAN). He specializes in the integration of clinical psychiatry with functional brain imaging, machine learning, neuroscience, molecular medicine, and neurotechnology. He believes that psychiatry should be at the forefront of science , and he founded Synergic Mind with a goal of bringing more sophisticated technology and brain science to the war against mental illness. He strongly values a patient's right to make educated choices about their care, which includes having information about both traditional and cutting-edge treatments. He believes the goal of psychiatry should be precision care that is individualized to each patient's unique personality and needs. Dr. Andersen graduated from medical school at Des Moines University, IA in 2012. He completed a family medicine residency at Darnall Army Medical Center in 2013 and a psychiatry residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in 2016 while on active duty in the U.S. Army. While in residency he completed elective rotations in neuroradiology/nuclear medicine. In 2016 he began training in the use of brain SPECT imaging, beginning with didactic education followed by a 3 year preceptorship. He has spent a significant amount of time studying neuroscience, connectomics, and molecular medicine research with a goal of finding more effective treatments and advancing the science of psychiatry. He also has an interest in neuroscience-based technology and the use of machine learning in medicine. He has worked in inpatient, outpatient, and consult-liaison settings as a general psychiatrist and has held various leadership positions, including chief medical officer/medical director on 3 different occasions. He treats patients aged 16 and older.
